On a Sunday filled with worship and joy, Bro. Jimuel De Guzman delivered a message centered on God’s unchanging faithfulness, using the prophetic story of Hosea and Gomer. He began by reflecting on the nature of marriage and commitment—how love is beautiful until it is tested by unfaithfulness. Would we remain faithful if we knew our spouse would betray us? Through this question, Jimuel drew a parallel with God’s unwavering covenant towards His people, even in the face of their unfaithfulness.
Scripture Foundation: Hosea 2:19-20
“I will betroth you to me forever; I will betroth you to me in righteousness and in justice, in steadfast love and in mercy. I will betroth you to me in faithfulness, and you shall know the Lord.”
Jimuel explained that Hosea’s story is more than a narrative—it’s a living allegory of God’s love for Israel. Despite their repeated spiritual betrayal, God promises restoration and lasting engagement.
Three Pillars of God’s Covenant
- Righteousness and Justice
God’s covenant isn’t initiated by human faithfulness, but by His own righteousness. We, as people, often fail to keep our vows—even those made before God. But Jesus, the perfect Son, lived without sin, so that we might be declared righteous through faith in Him, not by our works. - Loving Kindness and Mercy
Jimuel emphasized that God’s loyalty is a product of His compassion. Even when we doubt—“God, do you not care?”—He shows mercy, as evidenced by Christ calming the storm and His acts of compassion. Believers are encouraged to be extensions of God’s presence on earth, serving and loving not for personal gain but to glorify God. - Faithfulness
God’s promises are always kept. The evidence of His faithfulness is found in creation, history, and especially in the work of Jesus. The church has endured because of God’s spirit and faithfulness. God desires loyalty built on the evidence of His love and sacrifice, not blind faith.
Practical Applications and Reflections
- Our worth comes not from achievements or recognition, but from being sons and daughters of God, embraced by His mercy and righteousness.
- We’re called not just to serve or work, but to build a living relationship with our Creator. True purpose is found in Him.
- The message concludes with encouragement: whatever uncertainties we face, God remains faithful. Even if healing doesn’t come in this life, Jesus has prepared for us an eternal home and promises not to abandon us.
Questions for the Week
- As the bride of Christ, what aspects of God do you still want to know or experience?
- What hinders you from knowing Him more deeply? Pursue your relationship with Christ out of identity—not obligation.
Jimuel’s sermon was an invitation to renew our engagement with Christ, live out our faith joyfully, and rest in the assurance of God’s unchanging commitment.
